Retail Therapy Equals a Twilight Score!

I just purchased the Twilight Soundtrack off of iTunes, and while I back up my iPod (Heaven forbid I lose a single song!) I figured I’d tell you about my evening.…

Tonight I went out for some much needed retail therapy. My purpose for shopping was of course not for myself. I had to purchase a birthday gift for one of my neighbors who was kind enough to invite us to their son’s birthday.

However while I was out I did pick up this really cute scarf –totally preppy and adorable. I’ll take a picture of myself in it at the party tomorrow and post. I also picked up Deceptively Delicious. I’ve wanted to buy this book since it came out but never did because, well frankly I’m not a big fan of cook books, and would always end up picking up a novel or journal (I’m a big fan of journals!) Tonight while browsing in Ross I spied it and scooped it up for the bargain close-out price of $7.99. When I get around to actually reading it and following a recipe I’ll be sure to fill you in on how things went with Mo, for whom the book was really purchased. Plus, it’s an early “New Years” resolution of mine to be better at cooking regularly (meaning more than just three times a week). I’m not a fan of cooking, especially if I feel like it’s a chore. I’m pretty darn good at it, and when I’m in the mood I can create delectable dishes (mainly Cuban). Prince Charming says I “complicate myself” to much; instead of just trying to keep it simple. I fear he is absolutely correct.

Picture this…

Here’s Nicolle in her lovely kitchen chopping away, and in her head she’s on T.V. a la Martha Stewart or Giada De Laurentiis wearing something absolutely divine in the perfect shade of pink, detailing everything I’m doing (in my head). Practicing for that one day I’m on Today showing the world of daytime television just how to prepare Ropa Vieja or Arroz con Picadillo. While Matt Lauer (he’s kinda McDreamy) points out that I don’t look the least bit Cuban, and then I’d tell him how I was only one half Cuban, and that my mother, although Irish American is basically an adopted Cuban. Then I’d make some sort of witty comment, which would land me a regular spot covering stories on fashion (oh the shoes!!) or politics.… Sigh. A girl can have a not so random pretty much repeating daydream while preparing dinner can’t she?

That would spin off to my own New York Times bestselling cookbook where I’d detail how I got my notoriously picky son (although to give him credit he has become much more open to trying different things recently) to eat a healthy and nutritious diet. Seriously, all daydreaming aside I can’t help but fear that he is vitamin deficient of at least one much needed vitamin or mineral. At his next physical I’m considering asking his wonderful doctor to run a complete nutrient workup. The only thing holding me back is the recollection of the last time he had to have his blood drawn, and him telling me he never wanted to get “another bleed” ever again. (tear, tear)

Crap, I’ve completely gone and gotten all out of focus… main point. I need to cook more, and I thought that if I tried some of the recipes in Deceptively Delicious I would be killing two birds with the single proverbial stone; one cooking, and two getting my son to eat foods that are healthy and nutrient rich.

Now, on to the best part of my evening… and it wasn’t the fact that Prince Charming cooked dinner.

After I purchased the book and my new scarf (Can you tell I’m totally smitten over it?) I moseyed on down to the Borders for a Twilight Party. It was pretty un-partyish. Basically a bunch of teenagers were hangin’ out writing poetry and why they love Twilight (on a side note, had I not been in Ross buying the book, looking at purses — I always seem to go for the most expensive one, that I can’t afford at the moment, and buying that scarf I would have been writing my Twilight poem too.)

I got to the Twilight shindig just in time to put my name in for free movie tickets (I didn’t win them). I did get to play a game though. Basically you had to raise your hand the fastest and give the answer to a question.

You should know that whenever we had these sort of “contests” in school if I knew the answer my hand shot up like a rocket! Needless to say I’m pretty darn good at raising my hand!

Anyway. The question was, “Who said, ‘No blood, no foul’?” Up shot my hand and my answer was right of course (Edward) and I totally scored a movie poster! Which as my husband put it, I beat out a bunch of teenyboppers for. I smirked at him and said “Darn right I did.” That poster is soooo going to be part of my Twilight scrapbook!

Well my iPod is backed up (use a DVR disc to back up your iPod they hold more info) and now I’ve got to get on to listening to the soundtrack.

Cheers!!

P.S. If you’re still reading, Thank you. I really do appreciate you taking the time to read my blog. I promise to try and be more concise! Now, go leave a comment! How else am I to know you were here?
