Stylish Kids at Affordable Prices– How I Do It!

My children always look great, and stylish. I rarely purchase their clothing from the big box department stores-unless it can be pronounced in such a way that it sounds French. I just feel that the clothing from the other big box stores just don’t stand up to the wear and tear that kids clothes need. Some think that the clothing is cheap enough so a person can afford to buy new, when they turn into rags. I say, I spend about the same amount and get much better quality for my dollar. Where I do purchase my children’s clothing are in stores like the GAP or the GAP Outlet. I however hardly ever purchase items at full price. I’m a bargain hunting, clearance shopping kinda gal. Here’s how I make my boys look like they belong on the cover of a magazine with out breaking the bank!

  • I very rarely pay full price. I hunt the clearance and sales racks!
  • I plan ahead. At the change of seasons, I purchase pieces for the following year when they go on clearance or on sale. I can’t stand seeing children wearing clothing that is too small for them. Like pants that look like their cropped because they fall at the ankles when they’re really not, or jackets that cling desperately to the forearm.
  • I take advantage of online sales, shipping discounts and anything else I can get!
  • For the infant I always figure they’re going to be one size bigger than their age and shop accordingly

My five year old is at the point where he wants to pick out his own clothing when we go shopping. Like his mother he’s very opinionated on what he likes, and what is to quote him, “too boring’.  When we go shopping I show him the price tags, give him a budget on what I am able to spend, and let him help me find items he likes at a price that I like. At first my husband thought I was turning him into a “girl”, but he now realizes that I’m teaching him a valuable lesson — and no, it’s not how to look absolutely fabulous-although that is a wonderful side effect, I’m teaching him the value of a dollar, and how to save and spend wisely.
