Dinner in a Flash!

Twitter Moms has posed the question: With Our Busy Schedules, What Are Your 3 Valid Tips for Getting Dinner Ready in a Flash?

I thouhgt that was a very valid quesiton that many mothers answer every day. Here’s my response.

I’m a pretty good cook. I don’t enjoy cooking-not really-not unless I’m in the “mood” to cook. If I’m in a cooking sorta mood then I can literally cook all day.  However most days I’d prefer to get in and out of the kitchen instead of spending time in front of a stove when I could be off doing something far more entertaining.  To get dinner on the table in a flash I’ve developed three simple steps that have helped me prepare a meal with hardly no trouble at all.

1. Prepare in advance. I’m not one to plan out my meals each week or month-I’m not that disciplined. Also, the thought of picking what I’m going to eat on Thursday evening on Sunday afternoon just doesn’t bode all that well on my psyche. I do however choose three meals that I know my family enjoys and always have the ingredients needed on hand to make when I feel that I’m pressed for time-or when my muse is calling my name and a quick dinner is all I can do. These meals are usually easy to prepare — less than thirty minutes-and require little clean up.

2. If I know I’m going to make a chicken soup later in the afternoon for dinner that morning I do all the prep work so that when cooking time comes I don’t have to worry about chopping vegetables. I also take out all of the ingredients like spices, tomato sauce, or broth and set them out on my counter so that everything is at hand.

3. I keep an organized kitchen. Not having to look for the can opener, or the vanilla saves time. Everything in my kitchen has a place-I get kind of annoyed when things aren’t put back, where as my husband get’s annoyed when I move things around after he’s finally learned where every thing goes!
