Ugly Side of Kissing You

Music plays a large part in my life although much to my chagrin I’m musically inept. I am thinking about giving piano lessons another go-so we’ll see.

Music is an integral part of my writing. Some-days I’ll listen to my play-list with out feeling the need to repeat the song a dozen times…this week there have been two songs that I’ve been listening to over, and over, and over.

The first is Kissing You by Des’ree — sung on the soundtrack to the motion picture William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet.
Pride can stand a thousand trials
The strong will never fall
But watching stars without you
My soul cries

Heaving heart is full of pain
Oooh, oooh, the aching
’Cause I’m kissing you, oooh
I’m kissing you, oooh

Touch me deep, pure and true
Give to me forever
’Cause I’m kissing you, oooh
I’m kissing you, oooh

Where are you now
Where are you now
’Cause I’m kissing you
I’m kissing you, oooh

The second song is Ugly Side by Blue October, I’ve been listening to the live version off of their Argue with a Tree album over and over, and over today. The last stanza — (and I mean stanza-there music is poetry) is the reason for my continued pushing of the back button on my iPod.

I must have sneezed, on knees I freeze
I mean, I just choked up
But somehow I slept, I dream, I mean
I dreamt of nothing

I’m able to breathe a sweet relief
Now that you’re here for me
A northern degree dove into me
Now I’m recovering

I only want you to see
My favorite part of me
And not my ugly side
And not my ugly side, ugly side

So hook up a C.B
Wave a way for conversation flow
I’m shoved in your cage, to wage this rage
Don’t let me go

A kick and a scream
Is all that seems to mean a lot, thus far
Yeah, I won’t let you on my stage, my page
You can’t know, yet you have to know

And that I only want you to see
My favorite part of me
And not my ugly side
And not my ugly side

I only want you to see
My favorite part of me
And not my ugly side
And not my ugly side

So calm, ohh ooh
And it’s so calm

And now it’s dark
I look for you to light my heart
I’m between the moon and where you are
I know I can’t be far

The two songs are obviously different. Kissing You– is nice when read –but with out the soulful voice giving it feeling it’s really just a bunch of words clumped together-I don’t think the “oooh” fillers help much either. Ugly Side, however packs a punch when read, which is why I call their music poetry-because every single one of their songs is like that.

These two songs have been helping work though a few things in my story-I’m technically not even writing this part of the story yet, but I’m attempting to work though some plot ideas and the feeling behind these songs help me–get into the mindset-if that makes any sense what-so-ever?
