Last week I decided that hav­ing my own workspace-an office if you will-where I could go and write is some­thing I needed. For nearly two years my work­space was in my liv­ing room. When I was preg­nant with Evan we con­verted our office to his bed­room. It was fine for a while-but for the last six months or so it’s bugged me to no end. We live in a townhouse-I really love it-it’s quite spa­cious but grow­ing up in Florida we didn’t real­ize how great hav­ing a base­ment would be-so we didn’t buy one that had a basement-needless to say we’ve quickly out grown our home.

But I digress…

Last week I decided to get my own office my boys would need to share a room. The most fea­si­ble option was the mas­ter bed­room. My hus­band was on board-he usu­ally is with my crazy ideas and so we set out to do the switch. A few weeks ago we decided that we’d lay lam­i­nate floor­ing in Michael’s bed­room, hav­ing already pur­chased the floor­ing we decided to paint too. So last week I began paint­ing his room (which would become ours) and get­ting things ready. Over the week­end my hus­band laid the floor.

Those two tasks-the paint­ing and lay­ing of the floor our big jobs in and of them­selves; but we suf­fer from a syn­drome known as over-achiverism. This syn­drome causes you to think you can do more with the time you have-so we decided to also paint the hall­way and stairs, the down­stairs bath­room, and the mas­ter bedroom.

On Mon­day I painted the down­stairs bath, on Tues­day and Wednes­day I set out to start the switch-a-roo. I real­ize now, that I wont get to paint the mas­ter bed­room until maybe next week (that will be the boys bed­room) but I have now man­aged to get us mostly switched and my office is as put together as it’s going to get-for now. I am cur­rently main­tain­ing an orga­nized chaos– a few days ago my house looked like a dump. Yes­ter­day morn­ing I couldn’t even walk into my new office with out hav­ing to leap over things and the mas­ter bed­room was a con­coc­tion of toys, books, and pretty much every­thing else. All of our clos­ests have been switched and orga­nized and aside from the beds we’re all moved in to our new rooms.

The mess was my own per­sonal mad­ness. Mess makes me stressed. I become moody and cranky-I feel like I can’t see straight, let alone think straight. I went to bed around two thirty this morn­ing and was up an hour ago going through my to do list — I’m host­ing a Twi­light party this Sat­ur­day so on top of every­thing else I’ve that to get ready for. I’m feel­ing much bet­ter today and will work on get­ting things orga­nized for my party-just as soon as I clean my sofa-unless you have kids-you really have no idea how a sofa can get so many lit­tle stains and look like its ten years old-when in real­ity it’s barely four.

Adieu for now. My “to do” list isn’t nearly as long as it was on Mon­day but it could still go head to head with Santa’s “good” list!
