When I got out of bed this morn­ing I actu­ally heard a num­ber of my bones crack. I won­der if it has any­thing to do with the fact that for the first time in my entire life I fell asleep with my makeup on. I kid you not-first time in all the years I’ve been wear­ing makeup that I actu­ally slept in my bed, with make up on my face.

Sleep­ing sans makeup is a car­di­nal rule of mine-much like never pick­ing your nose, or a wedgie in public.

It all began when Evan wouldn’t or couldn’t fall asleep last night. So I hap­pily brought him into my bed to snug­gle. Snug­gling in bed with Evan is not some­thing that I do often because he’s just not that into it. He loves to snug­gle on the couch-but in bed-not so much. I think its because he is accus­tomed to going to sleep in his bed and doesn’t asso­ciate my bed with slumber.

I got myself curled around him and as my nose nuz­zled the nape of his neck (a sure­fire way to put this gal in Mommy heaven). I assume he and I were both asleep within min­utes because the last thing I remem­ber with any clar­ity is the sound of the iron­ing board squeak­ing as the hubs ironed his dress blues. After that I vaguely remem­ber my hus­band ask­ing me if I wanted to “keep Evan in bed with us or to put him in his crib.” I remem­ber say­ing crib-and vaguely think­ing that I still had mas­cara on, but for-the-life-of-me can’t under­stand how I man­aged not to care about mas­cara smears on my white pillowcases.

I woke up this morn­ing to a face that could rival Court­ney Love’s any day of the week! Plus-I still had my con­tacts in.

That sums up my night and morn­ing. Makeup  and crack­ing bones-is this a sign of aging-early symp­toms of senil­ity perhaps?
